Happy Monday, Kiddos!!!

My grandfather always used to say, "Do you wake up and think - Oh God, it's Monday or Thank you, God, for Monday?"

This isn't a great picture, but it'll suffice for now; plus it's the only one I have easy access to. For those of you who still have grandfathers around, take advantage of every story and drop of wisdom they share with you. Seriously, do it! As cliché as it sounds, I never appreciated either of my grandfathers' infinite wisdom until after they had both passed away. My father always used to tell me to call my grandfather when I needed help with French homework, and now I regret not doing so. Along with my maternal grandfather and my great uncles, I have yet to meet anyone as wise. Or curious. Amongst other things, my paternal grandfather - above - knew six different languages fluently (English, French, Arabic, Italian, Latin, and Hebrew)!!! If I can grow up to be half as fabulous as he was, I'll come out juuuust fiiiine.

Okay, no time now, but I'm definitley adding to this blog in a few hours.

Not Want, NEED

I recently developed an appreciation for all things gold. I like touches of it everywhere. Here are a few things I want need.

Eduardo Garza's gorgeous book-ends. Of course these will only be suitable if I have a white book case in my future (and not so far off) apartment. Never underestimate how much character and warmth bookshelves (preferebly floor to ceiling) can add to a room.

A Michael Kors  chunky gold men's watch. Yes, I did say men's. I like my watches extra-large.

I need Chicago's Gold Coast back in my life. Stat.

How To Stay Positive

This little cutie is the farthest thing from a defeatist. I hope she brings a Julia Roberts-sized grin to your face, as she did mine.

"Damn the Defeatists"

Why, hello there!

Blogging is uncharted territory for me personally, so please bare with me. I feel silly placing an introductory greeting on a blog, but I guess if you're reading this, you have in fact traveled to my blogspot. Thanks for stopping by.

I guess I'd like to start by telling you why I'm blogging and how this particular blog got its name. I'm blogging first and foremost for myself. Then why do so through a public medium, you ask? Why not? I mean, I did major in Communication with an emphasis in media studies, for goodness sake. Technically, that probably makes me a social media-laggard. Anyhow, I've been debating starting a blog for months and have finally decided to document my musings, observations, and anything that inspires me. If in doing so I can add sprinkles of positivity to your life, then I'm happy to be of service! "Damn the Defeatists" is actually the name of a photo album I have on Facebook (okay, so maybe I'm not entirely a social media-laggard?). I consider it a life policy of sorts, and I think providing you with a dictionary definition of the word 'defeatist' should explain the rest.

According to Dictionary.com:

de·feat·ist [dih-fee-tist]
–noun

1. a person who surrenders easily or is subject to defeatism.

2. an advocate or follower of defeatism as a public policy.

–adjective

3. marked by defeatism.

Origin:

1915–20; defeat + -ist, modeled on French défaitiste

Disclaimer: Nothing I blog about is meant to harm or offend; if you disagree with any opinions I share, feel free to kindly comment on the posting. I do not purport to be a wealth of knowledge, merely innately curious and humbly willing to share. Also, I am aware that this blogspot is less than visually pleasing at the moment. As soon as I find/create a template, sprucing will occur.
